Sambão Board Meeting, July 3, 2002
----------------------------------

These are the minutes of the Sambão Board of Directors meeting held at the
Mountain View Recreation Center, Wednesday July 3, 2002, from 8:45 to 9:45 PM.

Present were:

Glenn Evans
Brad Hamilton
Craig Lawson
Olga Outzs
Lisa Ruiz
Ted Syrett

Ted called the meeting to order at 8:45 PM in Glenn's absence.  The minutes
of the previous meeting had been distributed earlier via email and posted on
Sambão's web site.  The post included a correction noted by Craig via email.
The minutes were accepted as posted.  Glenn arrived shortly after the start
of the meeting.

Old Business

1.  Event coordinator

There was no progress to report on this item.

2.  Morale building

Brad reported that he had called and left a message for Jim Holdrergger,
our Tapestry in Talent contact, regarding use of C.R.E. Uniao Brasileira
facilities for a monthly get-together, and that Jim had not yet called back.

3.  Upcoming events

Brad reported that the Redwood City Independence Day parade was a "go".
He also pointed out that the date of the Big Basin gig is Saturday, July 27,
not July 21 as reported in the minutes of the last meeting.  Finally, he
noted that we are confirmed for Sunday, August 4 in Redwood City.  Brad
said he would speak with Pablo to clarify Sambão's role in the Big Basin
event, which is primarily a Sambosseros gig.  Brad also mentioned a possible
gig at Cañada College.

4.  Financial matters

Glenn brought with him paperwork from the bank to replace the missing
signature card.  The officers dealt with this after the meeting.  The
intent is to have Glenn, as President, and Craig, as Treasurer, be the
only two signatories on the account.

5.  Guidelines for cooperation with other groups

Discussion of this item was postponed due to shortage of time and the
sparse attendance on the eve of a four-day holiday weekend.

New Business

1.  Sambão legacy references on BCA's web site

Ted reported that he had called Jackie Yung to ask who was handling
the BCA web site currently.  This call was prompted by Nicole's obser-
vation, confirmed by testing with Google, that when you ask a search
engine to find "Sambao Para o Povo", the first two hits that come up
are on BCA's web site, with our official site in third place.

Ted reported that Jackie said Beicola was handling it himself, and
that Ted had left a message for Beicola asking to discuss the matter.

2.  Navigation of our web site

Brad suggested that our web site would benefit from having links
on its home page to the membership (enrolment) page and the Bateria
page; currently one must traverse several links to reach the Bateria
page.  After a brief discussion, we decided to refer this to Nicole
and take it up again at the next meeting.

Next Meeting

We agreed to meet againat the Mountain View Recreation Center next Wednesday,
July 10, 2002, at 8:30 PM.

The meeting adjourned at 9:45 PM.
