Sambao is looking forward to "one-upping" this year's award winning
performance in 2003. Rumor has it that an Enredo is already being
prepared! You may join the Bateria or Dancers anytime throughout
the year by taking our classes
at the Mountain
View Recreation Center.
The information below is mostly from this year, but has been, and
will be updated as our preparations ramp-up. Look for regular
meetings and rehearsals starting in January, but you may always
check this page for the latest information. You may expect similar
procedures to those described below for 2003.
We are currently beefing-up the bateria for our annual performance in
the San Francisco Carnaval parade in the Mission District. Joining
the Bateria (for the parade or the other shows we do during the year)
is easy.

1. Join
Sambao $10.00: The organization needs to collect this
nominal fee to cover simple costs like booking a place to rehearse
and the like. Joining the organization puts you on all the right
lists,
and helps us keep in touch. Please print a copy of the form,
complete
your registration, and submit, along with your $10.00 check made
out to "Sambao". Forms
and checks should be given to Ted or Lisa.
[Exception: Out of town "contingents" from Davis, San Diego, and Portland
are not expected to join Sambao. Welcome to, but not expected
to!]
NOTE:
The form contains a legal "waiver" which is required by
the
SF Carnaval committee. All parade participants must complete
the
registration form, and thus sign the waiver in order to participate
in
the parade. (In other words, you must complete the form even
if you are not paying the $10.00 to join Sambao.)
2. Buy a Costume $50.00: The renown
Marise Oliveira is currently
building the bateria costumes which should be ready by the second or
third
week in May. We have taken great care to produce a "cool, suitable
for display" costume, but keep the price low at $50.00. Please
buy your
costume as soon as possible. We accept checks made out to Sambao!

If you still use cassettes, you can ask me, and a bribe is
not a bad idea in this particular case!
