6:00-7:00pm - Basic Conga Clinic ($10.00)
This session will cover the basics of learning to play the conga drum.  I will explain my background and what I can teach you about playing the conga drum.  A general introduction to conga drumming will include a brief history of the drum as well as an explanation of how the drum is used in different musical "forms" and why a student needs to learn about percussion in general in order to become a serious conga player.  We will also cover basic playing "technique" as well as a basic pattern for you to practice, and that can be used in many situations.  ALL STUDENTS WISHING TO TAKE ADDITIONAL CONGA CLINICS SHOULD TAKE THE BASIC CLINIC AT LEAST ONE TIME FIRST.

7:00-8:00pm - Intermediate Conga Clinic ($10.00)
This session will build on the first session and introduce new material.  Curriculum has been developed for two conga clinics beyond the basic one, and we will draw from this curriculum for this one hour clinic.  The hour will include a review of basic technique, practice time playing our basic pattern, and some variations to the basic pattern.  We may also introduce some new patterns, and practice ensemble drumming with different players on different parts.  The final curriculum for this hour will be set based on the needs of those attending.  Students must take the "Basic Conga Clinic" before participating in this session as all new material will be based on the material covered in that session.

Attend both hours for the package price of $15.00!

8:00-9:00pm - Listening/Discussion/Playing
Participants are invited to "hang-out" after the hour of instruction to listen to some culturally appropriate music and to discuss what we have learned in class.  We can also play along to the music.  Depending on what folks want, we can also listen and discuss other "forms" not covered in any classes so far, to provide a broader background on the Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Cuban forms.

Please RSVP to Conga@MusicIsHealing.com
(A limited number of conga drums will be available.  If you have one, bring it!)
