Conga Workshop
Saturday, October 19, 2002
4:00 to 5:00pm
Location: Brad's House (directions below)
Cost: $10.00

This one-hour session will cover the basics of learning to play the Conga Drum.
We will cover the basic technique for hitting the drum (tones, open slaps, dry slaps, etc.) as well as a basic history of the drum, and how it fits into various ethnic music forms (Afro-Cuban/Salsa, and Afro Brazilian/Samba specifically).

I will explain my background on the instruments and explain what I can teach about the instrument and how to play it.  We will also discuss other avenues for studying conga drumming.  At the end of the workshop, you may decide if the "workshop" format is desirable or perhaps set up private lessons for the more serious players.

The conga drum is at heart of many Afro-Cuban/Brazilian rhythms and it is difficult to study without also exploring other instruments (clave, pilas, caixixi, agogo, etc.)  We will present this concept in more detail so folks may decide how they want to approach their study of the Conga drum.

Please RSVP for this Workshop by sending email to Conga@musicishealing.com

Since we are holding this workshop in my house, space is limited.  Conga drums can be provided for up to ten people, which will be the size limit for this clinic!
