so here's another one of my really fancy expensive invitations for my birthday party in golden gate park in san francisco at the end of next week...NOT!  but it's the party that counts!  my apologies to any of you who got this more than once.

so, i got back from brazil recently, i'm turning 50 in a couple weeks, and i'm having a party to celebrate everything there is to celebrate -- a potluck barbeque (brazilian style churrasco), samba drumming jam/batucada (bring instruments and dirty dancing shoes and join in!), and lots of fun people -- same scene as my other going away/coming back/whatever parties in the park over the past couple years.

SATURDAY, JUNE 18, 2005
AFTER 12:00 NOON, UNTIL DARK (8 OR 9 P.M.)
AT GEORGE WASHINGTON GROVE IN GOLDEN GATE PARK, near the corner of Lincoln and 25th Avenue on the south side of the park (exact same place as previous parties -- see map at bottom of message).

WHAT TO BRING:  POTLUCK FOOD CONTRIBUTION (meat for the grill, veggies, salads, side dishes, snacks, desserts, whatever!), and WHATEVER YOU CARE TO DRINK.

WHAT I'LL PROVIDE:  barbeque, dishes and forks and cups, A PORTABLE BATHROOM (this is becoming a class act!), and a collection of fun, interesting and lovely people -- like you and your friends!

WHAT ELSE TO BRING:  your DRUM, samba-dancing shoes (OR BARE FEET -- it's a grassy meadow), BLANKETS, LAWN CHAIRS, dogs, frisbees, whatever.  if you have a COOLER or FOLDING TABLE or anything else you think would help, please bring it!

IF ANYONE IS WILLING TO HANDLE THE BARBEQUE FOR AN HOUR, PLEASE LET ME KNOW (EITHER IN ADVANCE OR WHEN YOU GET THERE) -- i don't want any one person to get stuck on the grill for too long, so that everyone has a chance to circulate and enjoy the other parts of the party, so i'm trying to get some voolunteers to take turns like for an hour each or something.  IT'S FUN being the churrasqueiro -- all you do is cook the meat and cut it up, and people swarm around you like you're a MOVIE STAR and they LOVE AND APPRECIATE YOU and you get to MEET EVERYBODY!  so please consider helping this way if you're so inclined (thanks!!).

PLEASE NOTE:  I AM ALL SCREWED UP TECHNOLOGICALLY and don't have a bunch of my email addresses/address book available to me, so PLEASE FORWARD THIS ON TO ALL THE USUAL SUSPECTS.  if you got this forwarded to you by someone else (instead of getting it directly from me), please don't think it's because i forgot about you...actually, i may well have asked that person to send it to you in particular...because my complete email address book is on my big desk-top computer in BRAZIL and i don't have everyone's email address like i thought i did...ok?  EVERYONE IS INVITED, bring any friends you want to, etc...and this time i want people to SING HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me at some point (with drumming accompaniment, of course!).
